On 5 December 2024, SARVAM, Puducherry, successfully conducted a Training of Trainers (ToT) program at the Satyam Community Centre. The program aimed to equip volunteers with the essential knowledge and skills to prioritise and support vulnerable communities, especially the elderly, during disaster situations. This initiative highlighted the critical role of preparedness, sensitivity, and inclusivity in addressing the unique challenges faced by these groups during emergencies.
The training adopted dynamic and participatory methods, including group discussions, theatre-based learning, and interactive games. These activities engaged participants and allowed them to explore creative problem-solving approaches while fostering empathy and collaboration. Theatre-based learning provided practical insights into the challenges faced by vulnerable communities, and group discussions offered diverse perspectives and real-life scenarios to deepen understanding.
Teamwork was a central focus of the training, as participants were encouraged to pool their skills and resources to create a robust network of support. This collaborative approach aimed to amplify their impact, ensuring more individuals in need could be reached and assisted. The volunteers learned strategies to strengthen their collective efforts, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose within their communities.
The program concluded with a unanimous pledge by the participants to support the elderly and other vulnerable groups, not only during disasters but in everyday life. This commitment reflects the dedication of these volunteers to upholding principles of care and compassion, making them invaluable contributors to their communities.
