Sri Aurobindo Rural & Village Action & Movement (SARVAM), the rural wing of Sri Aurobindo Society, is developing a progressive village community model that is sustainable, replicable and scalable.
SARVAM started its work in 2005 in two villages of Villupuram district, Tamil Nadu, one person at a time and in 2018–19 the developmental activities of SARVAM have been extended to 20 villages covering 4,000 families and 22,000 people. A dedicated and active group of people have been organized in each village to work with the community in developing every field of life.
On May 17, 2019, the fourth Annual Charity Awards, organized by UK-based, Indian diaspora newspaper Asian Voice with sponsorship from diligence firm CharityClarity, were announced. Several deserving social service organizations from healthcare, child slavery, knife crime, poverty alleviation, refugees and youth skill building from all over the world were awarded.
The Sarvam Trust, nominated in various categories including ‘Social Impact Award’ and ‘Most Inspiring Individual’, was the winner of the ‘Audience Choice Award’. S. Chitra, Director–SARVAM, was nominated in the Most Inspiring Individual category.
The Asian Voice Charity Awards are not only about social service organizations and charities which seek to solve the most pressing social issues of our time globally, but also for those that seek to innovate and strive for excellence and whose success is judged by their end results.
The Awards are organized to showcase excellence in developmental work and give a much-needed boost to organizations struggling to get the supporters and funding they need to move forward to deliver practical solutions to present-day problems.
