Date: May 15 – May 27, 2025
Location: Project Villages
From 15th to 27th May 2025, SARVAM, Sri Aurobindo Society’s rural development initiative, in collaboration with JIPMER Hospital, conducted a significant public health outreach effort titled the Family Health Advisory Program across its project villages. This initiative aimed to enhance rural healthcare delivery through consistent engagement, awareness, and education, focusing on holistic family health.
For nearly a year, medical support was delivered directly to the villagers through weekly visits by postgraduate medical students and doctors from JIPMER. Selected families received free consultations, expert medical advice, and required medications. These regular touchpoints allowed for early diagnosis, timely treatment, and a growing trust between the healthcare providers and community members. The personalised attention received by each family improved the adoption of healthier lifestyles and encouraged early medical intervention in many households.
As the programme drew to a close in late May, the JIPMER team initiated a series of focused awareness sessions on non-communicable diseases (NCDs)—often referred to as “silent killers.” These sessions addressed topics such as prevention, early symptoms, the importance of screening, and sustainable lifestyle modifications. Conducted across several village locations with the support of SARVAM volunteers, these efforts aimed to empower communities with knowledge to take proactive steps towards better health.
The Family Health Advisory Program has left a positive and lasting impact on the lives of the villagers. By bridging the rural-urban healthcare divide and promoting health awareness, the joint efforts of SARVAM and JIPMER have significantly contributed to strengthening community well-being and resilience.
