Empowering Villages Through Holistic Education: SARVAM’s Commitment to Integrated Development

Students Support Initiatives

Sarvam identifies marginalized and needy children and provides them with academic, social and monetary inputs to ensure that they continue schooling in spite of adverse family circumstances. Sarvam also offers advanced study loans.

Girls of 11th standard and above had to walk 5 km everyday to the nearest school, and were facing problems. Concerned about their safety, the parents of these children usually force them to drop out of school. To mitigate this problem, Sarvam has provided loans for the purchase of bicycles to these girl students.

Empowering Tomorrow: SARVAM’s Summer Camps for Holistic Development

Summer Camps are an extension of the Children’s Corner, where the concept of holistic development of children is the core theme. The various curricula adopted in the summer camps, include vocal and instrumental music, martial arts, science and technology, computers and multimedia, art and craft. The camps also include unique workshops conducted by experts on building character, integrity, confidence, leadership and entrepreneurial skills, on nurturing values. The highly motivated children take responsibilities for the daily chores of the camp with exemplary ownership and collective pride.

This year Sarvam conducted 22-day camp from 5 to 26 May 2012. More than 400 children participated in the camp. Some of the important activities carried out included special sessions by experts, leading children to explore diverse and important topics such as leadership, values, attitudes, dignity, self-confidence, positive thinking, etc.

The Azim Premji Foundation organized many interesting activities, including fascinating hands-on science experiments and activities such as creating music from instrument made out of common materials, origami paper folding, vegetable cloth dying, and lessons in Tamil keyboarding, theatre and English language classes.

Project Ringtone

A unique initiative, in partnership with IT giant HP, Project Ringtone helps in cultivating computer awareness and expertise among the village students to enable them to design and implement its use in the rural context and setting. Training is given to children in the age group of 10–16 years primarily on two applications—Movie Soup helps them to learn animation and visualize and narrate a story through it. Scratch helps them develop their analytical and mathematical skills while learning the basics of programming. More details of the project are available here .
