The Inaugural Narrowcasting Program on AVYAY Schemes

Date: 26-Nov-2024

Location: Satyam Community Centre

The AVYAY Awareness Program, part of the Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana (AVYAY), is a government initiative aimed at enhancing the welfare of senior citizens across India. The program is implemented through selected community radio stations under the guidance of the Community Radio Association (CRA). Pudiya Udayam Community Radio Station (PU CRS) is one of the 24 stations chosen to promote this initiative, serving as a platform to raise awareness about health, financial support, and legal rights for the elderly.

As part of its commitment, PU CRS has planned 10 narrowcasting programs tailored to the needs of elderly audiences in various locations. The inaugural session, held at the Satyam Community Centre, Poothurai, was attended by 45 participants, including 23 senior citizens, 12 family members, and 10 volunteers. This two-hour session was structured to provide critical information about AVYAY schemes, foster community interaction, and address specific concerns of the elderly.

The session began with an engaging ice-breaking activity, setting a warm and inclusive atmosphere. A pre-discussion followed to gauge participants’ existing awareness of AVYAY schemes, revealing that many had some knowledge but lacked comprehensive understanding. Facilitators then elaborated on the scheme’s benefits, helpline numbers, and how to access support. An audio broadcast further reinforced these messages, capturing the audience’s attention effectively.

A key highlight was the interactive discussion, where participants, family members, and volunteers actively asked questions and shared insights. This dialogue clarified doubts and fostered collective understanding, with family members expressing gratitude for learning how to better support their elderly relatives. Volunteers recognised the importance of spreading awareness within their communities.

To ensure continuity of information, pamphlets detailing AVYAY schemes and future broadcast schedules were distributed. Participants were encouraged to revisit and share these materials. The program concluded with a post-test activity, where the elderly participants enthusiastically answered questions, expressing their appreciation for the initiative.

Tea, snacks, and food were served, creating a sense of community and gratitude among attendees. The elderly participants, family members, and volunteers acknowledged PU CRS for its efforts, making the inaugural session a resounding success. This program represents a significant step in empowering rural elderly communities by connecting them with vital government schemes and fostering a supportive environment.
