Shanti Ashram, Coimbatore, conducted an online session on managing stress in adolescents: Why & How, in which around 20 volunteers from SARVAM who are responsible for the care of adolescent children participated in the session.
This session aimed to provide adolescents with tools to identify and manage stress. It also helped participants develop healthier coping mechanisms when dealing with difficult emotions and challenging situations. It equipped the volunteers with strategies for developing resilience and self-regulation.
In addition, the session aimed to provide a safe space for adolescents to discuss their experiences and build a community of support. The session was interactive, with activities, discussions, and reflection. It provided practical advice on identifying and managing stress in everyday life.
As a result of this session, the participants understood how to handle adolescents’ stress problems. The session provided them with tools to recognize the signs of stress in adolescents and how to support them effectively. They also learned how to foster a supportive environment that encourages open communication. They discussed the different strategies to help adolescents cope and manage their stress, such as relaxation techniques, positive self-talk, and problem-solving techniques. They also explored the importance of building trust and creating a safe space for adolescents to express themselves.
The volunteers committed to passing on the ideas from the training to adolescent children in their villages. They assured that they would teach the importance of maintaining a healthy and balanced diet, the value of physical activity, and the benefits of a positive attitude to adolescents.
