24 July 2022
An exposure visit was organised for the 125 Access students on 24 July 2022. This one-day tour aimed to give practical exposure and teach students the importance of historical places. Before the tour, the students prepared themselves with the necessary materials for the tour. They brought notes, pencils and pens, and some even brought cameras to record their experience.
First, the students visited Arikamedu, an archaeological site. Arikamedu, an abandoned city of South India and an erstwhile flourishing Indo-Roman trade centre during the first century BC, is located about 7 km south of Pondicherry on the banks of the Ariyankuppam river. Far from the din and bustle of a city, it is the only surviving historic place in South India with a cultural continuity from 300 BC-1800 AD, which the Archaeological Survey of India acquired in 2004.
The main intention of this exposure visit was to familiarise the students with historical sites and make students understand the history between the nations.
As part of the excursion, the students spoke in English, as these students belong to the English Access Microscholarship programme.
When the students visited Arikamedu, they were surprised to see many historically-important things. There the students were busy taking notes of all the crucial aspects.
The students then went to Eden beach in Chinnaveerampattinam, one of India’s ten blue flag certification beaches.
When the students played on the beach with their friends, they had a memorable time.
In addition to talking in English, they conversed in a new environment, which helped them improve their communication skills.
The whole trip benefited the students as they enjoyed it very well. The trip helped the students to understand Pondicherry in a better way.
The SARVAM team made all the arrangements for the food and snacks.
