SARVAM in association with the Shanthi Ashram, Coimbatore is organizing a series of online interactive sessions for the students and parents to help them get awareness on various topics that give them self-confidence.
On 27th November 2021, an interactive session titled Saying no to child sexual abuse was conducted on the ZOOM online platform from 3 to 4 .30 p.m.
Around 25 students and 10 mothers from various project villages attended this session and learned a lot about child sexual abuse.
Child sexual abuse is one of the most discussed crimes in recent days and almost in all parts of the country child sexual abuse is prevailing. The main reason for this crime is unawareness or not enough awareness amongst the children and the fear of speaking out. The victims never open up and this helps the abuser to freely indulge in the cruel act. This online interactive programme aimed to provide the awareness amongst students regarding child sexual abuse in schools and other places. through this session, a broad idea as to what is sexual abuse and how to deal with it was discussed with the students and their parents.
Dr.Lakshmi Shanthi graduate of the Coimbatore Medical College and Representative of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics was the chief guest of this programme. She has immense knowledge on aspects related to sexual abuse. She conducted the interactive session by speaking with the students and getting their ideas on sexual abuse. With the help of videos and PowerPoint Presentations, she explained the various ways through which children can be victims of sexual abuse and in addition to that, she also explained how the children can tactfully handle this.
A Short video on ‘Life is beautiful’ was played for the students and it showed how blessed the people are to be born in this world and the video demonstrated that all human beings are endowed.
A question and answer session was conducted towards the end of the session that helped students to get their doubts clarified from the Chief Guest.
This talk was an eye-opener for all those who attended this programme. The students got a chance to interact with many students from the other parts of the state. Mr. R.Aakash and Mr. Aditya Narayanan, volunteers of Shanti Ashram organized the whole programme.
