Sri Aurobindo Rural & Village Action & Movement (SARVAM, an initiative of Sri Aurobindo Society) has been conducting English Access Microscholarship Program since 2013, through which the students in the village learn English language through varied activities and mediums. This programme is being conducted in association with US Consulate and Regional English Language Office (RELO). As a part of the Access Program, various American English language trainers, scholars and experts periodically visit SARVAM centre to train teachers and students on new methodologies and approaches to learn and teach English.
English Access Microscholarship Program Certificate
The third phase of training for English Access Microscholarship Program began on August 2017. Until now 225 students have been trained under this programme. This third batch comprising of 100 students were trained and awarded certificates on September 28, 2019. Children and adults ranging in the age group of 13 to 21 were trained under this programme. The two-year rigorous training concluded in the month of September 2019 and hence the trainees were duly certified by the US Consulate and Regional English Language Office (RELO).
A simple and elegant function was organized by Sarvam in Sharanam – Training Centre for Sustainable Transformation. Mr. Moulik D. Berkana, Cultural Affairs Officer, U.S. Consulate General, Chennai; Mr.S. Gokula Krishnan, English Language Outreach Coordinator, Public Affairs Section, U.S. Consulate General, Chennai, graciously agreed to take part in the felicitation function and gave away the certificates to the 100 aspiring students. Shri. Vijay Poddar, Member Executive (Admin and Finance) of Sri Aurobindo Society also took part and congratulated all the children on their hard work and success.
The children displayed their English talents through oratory, songs and skits. The gathering including the chief guests were spell bound by the performance of the children. The local villagers requested Sarvam to continue organizing such programmes to the other surrounding villages also.
This memorable programme came to an end with the Vote of Thanks message given by the Directors of Sarvam – Mr. Senthil and Mrs. Chitra.
